CHURCHES URGED TO PRAY FOR MEN AND BOYS THIS SUNDAY …To Mark International Men’s Day

SPEAK YOUR MIND

THE COORDINATORS of the annual International Men’s Day in Nigeria have requested Churches throughout the country and in the Mano Union Region to create a 10-minute window in their services on Sunday, November 18 to pray for men and boys to kick start this year’s observance on the theme, Positive Male Role Model.

This was contained in a statement issued by Kingdom Men Global Network on behalf of a coalition of men’s groups, fellowships and men and boys right advocates announcing activities to mark this important day which has been in marked since 1999 in over 70 countries, but was introduced into Nigeria only last year.

The organisers also urged individuals to join the churches to pray for the men to receive the grace to arise and become positive role models for the younger ones – at home, in church, at work and in society at large and; for boys to be drawn only to positive influencers by the spirit of God. They referred all to three verses of scripture: Malachi 4:4; 2Timothy 2:2; 1Corinthians 11:1.

Activities marking International Men’s Day 2018, according to the organisers, will climax on Saturday, November 24 with a special International Men’s Day edition of Kingdom Men’s bi-monthly Men’s Breakfast Roundtable on the theme, Positive Male Role Model.  It will feature two lead discussants and extensive contributions from the men and boys in attendance.

With Dr Christopher Kolade, CON, one of Nigeria’s best known positive role model presiding, the event holds at Presken Hotel, 1, Shonny Way, Shonibare Estate, Nitel/Kingsway Bus stop, Maryland, Ikeja. Time: 8:30am – noon. A major highlight of this event is the presentation of the newly introduced (globally) Positive Male Role Model Award to three highly deserving men including Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal.

A major part of this year’s observance is an all week campaign to sensitise   persons, religious bodies, government at all levels and society in general to the truth that the dearth of positive masculinity is at the root of most of society’s problems, and that the dearth is the result of society’s neglect of the boy-child and failure to recognise that men have issues peculiar to them.

The coalition emphatically declared: “positive masculinity does not just happen, it has to be taught to be caught, and until and unless we embrace these truth and redirect attention and resources to tackle them, we will continue to treat effects rather than causes; symptoms, rather than diseases”.
